The many uses of ready-made prata dough

Updated: Jan 9, 2021

Ready-made prata (or roti Chanai) dough is really versatile as a simple puff pastry dough. I made sausage rolls and pastries with fillings and they always come out so nice and crispy.

All you have to remember is to use it while it is in a semi-chilled state or it can be hard to handle and before it goes into the oven brush on some butter (or oil) or garlic butter. Bake in a 200 Celcius oven for about 15 to 18 minutes.

Some use it as a topping for chicken pot pie and others for the curry puff (empanades) pastry.

I mean who likes to make puff pastry from scratch which requires many hours of work by hand.

Sometimes it just takes some creative ideas to come up with something lovely to eat.

In Singapore and Malaysia and some other countries like India, we eat this prata with curry. I like to eat mine with a tangy fish curry. Recently people have started using it like a pizza base or turnover pie with fillings of their choice. Some even use it as a dessert and there are sweet options in some prata establishments.

I filled mine with spinach, cheese and a good savoury sausage.
